Netflix's New Series is Promoting Weirdos Everywhere!

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

Wednesday is More Than Just a Day of the Week--It's an Addams!!

I've always loved The Addams Family movies and tv series. A show about a whole family of people who not only don't fit in, but also don't try and fit in - I mean this is right up my wheelhouse-what's NOT to love about it?

Well, now #Netflix has a series called #Wednesday which follows Wednesday Addams' years attending Nevermore Academy near the small town of Jericho. Nevermore Academy is a school for outcasts (like vampires, werewolves, sirens or just plain ol' weirdos) where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a killing spree and solve a mystery.

I picked up the remote thinking I would just watch one episode to see if it was going to be worth me watching and I ended up binge watching almost the entire season in one night! The conversation between Wednesday and normie (which just means normal) teacher Mrs. Thornhill spoke to me on so many levels-I actually had to pause it to so I could write down the dialogue between the two of them and I felt the beginnings of a blog forming. :)

Mrs. Thornhill says to Wednesday, "I've never really fit in anywhere. Too odd for the Normies not odd enough for the Outcasts." At this point I am sitting on the edge of the couch almost bawling because I understood her perfectly. I have felt like this regarding my race, my level of what I perceived normal to be and even my gender in how I didn't quite fall in line with how girls were "supposed to act". But I digress-this is not about me-but the series. Mrs. Thornhill goes on to tell Wednesday not to lose the ability to not let others define her. This is something I hope we can reinforce in our children and ourselves. We are not defined by others but by ourselves.

Another good conversation worth mentioning is the one between Bianca Barclay (Siren Queen B) and Wednesday. (Not to spoil anything but you should know that Bianca and Wednesday don't really care for each other.) Bianca tells Wednesday, "You're lucky. You don't care what people think of you." To which Wednesday replies, "Honestly, I wish I cared a little more."

Ahh!! To have that aloofness and genuinely not give a darn about what others think of you is the ultimate WIN in my book.

To all my Normies, Outcasts, Weirdos or whatever...you do you, Boo!! Whatever that may be!!

It's rare that we see the underdog or outcast win or be popular or even the majority, but all of us here at Square Peg Apparel have learned that you are not alone. AND you are NOT the underDOG but the underESTIMATED. Don't be afraid to be the square peg in the round world.

Take a look around...you just might find your tribe. Squarepegapparel.com
